The Shooting and Outdoor industries can breathe a collective sigh of relief knowing one of its
preeminent media companies is back in business. Athlon Media Group today announces the
formation of Athlon Outdoors, a new division producing 24 magazine titles, multiple websites

and social media platforms catering to outdoor, firearms, survival and self-reliance audiences.

The media properties were acquired by Athlon after Harris Publications shut down in June
2016. The new division is being rejuvenated under the leadership of VP/Group Publisher &
Content Director Nick Seifert, a 27-year media veteran whose resume includes Outdoor Life,
Field & Stream, ESPN Outdoors and InterMedia Outdoors.

Athlon Outdoor titles include Ballistic, Combat Handguns, Tactical Weapons, Survivor’s Edge,
The New Pioneer, Guns Of The Old West, and many of the industry’s most popular firearms and
accessories buyer’s guides and annuals. Digital properties include,, and which collectively drive more than 1.5
million unique viewers per month.

Long-time editors Nino Bosaz and Linas Cernauskas continue to lead the magazines and Matt
Hogan remains in charge of digital media. Industry veterans Scott Buchmayr, Amos Crowley,
Scott Cherek and Dan Flavin join Athlon Outdoors as advertising account representatives along
with veteran Jim Coen.

After a short transition period, the media company quickly resumed operations under Athlon
Outdoors last summer, publishing dozens of individual magazine issues and reenergizing the
websites, which recorded their second highest traffic month all time in November.

“We are all hard-core outdoorsmen and we are challenging each other to deliver engaging and
entertaining content well ahead of the curve,” Seifert said. “We are fortunate to have acquired
such a massive and passionate audience. It’s a rock-solid foundation from which to build.”

Seifert said he expects growth to come from new magazine titles plus a significant push into
digital, video, custom content and other platforms.

“From an advertising perspective, we are broadening opportunities to reach our markets, and
working with clients to tailor programs to match their marketing goals and strategies,” Seifert
said. “We have an incredibly experienced team and our job is to help clients grow their
business. They win, we win.”
